1. Klezmer Dance Medley trad.
Three fun freylekhs (happy tunes) that go well together for a simcha
dance set. I learned these melodies from participating in Merlin Shepherd's
band at Klezkamp.
2. S'vivon folk tune
"Little dreydl, spin, spin, spin. Chanukah is a day of joy. Great
was the miracle that happened there. Spin, little dreydl, spin, spin,
spin." Bonnie, with Roey's help, has added an original English and Yiddish
verse.
3. Drohobitsher Khosid trad.
These traditional khosidls provide a delightful "change of pace" for
the dancers.
4. Simkhes-Toyre Time M. Warshawsky
An ecstatic party song extolling the joys of Simchat Torah, the holiday on which
Jews end and begin anew the cycle of reading the Torah. "Oy, oy, oy, oy,
oy, Let's live it up kids, that's the way!"
5. Russian Medley folk tune, M. Blanter, folk
tune
This medley is another Klezkamp inspiration. Tune 1 is Moscow Nights
and Tune 2 is Katyusha, a song brought to Israel by Russian
olim. Tune 3 is known as 7:40am.
6. King David's Own Bonnie Abrams
Elvis Presley is reported to have had a Jewish maternal Grandmother. This is
Bonnie's take on the story. Key words : halakah (Jewish law), Yiddishe
(Jewish), kvelling (swelling with pride), meshpokhe (family),
Yeshiva Bokhe (religious student), Kayn ayn Hora (the "evil
eye" shouldn't see), Chai (Jewish symbol meaning life), Bubbe
(grandmother), Un az du vest vern raykh ("When you become wealthy"),
shokl (prayer motion), svelte (thin).
7. Oriental Hora/Freylekh trad.
Klezmer music originated in Eastern Europe and we appreciate the opportunity
to reach back into the history of the genre to connect with our tradition.
8. As Der Rebbe Folk Song
The Rebbe's followers mimic all his actions: zingt (sing), tantzt
(dance), lakht (laugh), est (eat), redt (speak) and
when he speaks, they shlof (sleep).
9. Dem Tsadeks Zemer'l ( The Wise Man's Tune )
D. Tarras
Dave Tarras (1897-1989) was not only a superb Klezmer clarinetist, he was also
a gifted composer.
10. Sid Beckerman Medley S. Beckerman, S.
Secunda, D. Tarras
3 more freylekhs, this time from the Sid Beckerman playbook. Enjoy
the American influence on the Klezmer experience.
11. Ikh Hob Dikh Tsufil Lib (I Love You Much Too Much)

C. Towber & A. Olshanetsky English lyrics R. Towber
Inspired by a KCB recording, we wanted to include a Tango with great lyrics
that could also feature Rick and Linda on solos.
12. Die Grine Kuzine (The Greenhorn Cousin)
H. Prizant & A. Schwartz
A story of the rosy-cheeked immigrant cousin who discovered that life was harder
in America than she expected. We present this popular song with a real "klez"
beat.
13. Wedding Medley trad. & S. Carlebach,
A. Nof
Roll up the rug and move the furniture back. It's time to join the 12 Corners
Klezmer Band for a wedding experience. You only have to imagine Roey in the
middle of the dance floor, taking the chosn (groom) and kalle
(bride) along with their guests for a dance "ride" they'll long remember. |
